life is so vulnerable ...

where we are often susceptible to emotional hurt... to mental stress... to physical injury... even to death!

who would have expected the Nicoll Highway to collapse on the 20th April? the 4 workers who died in this tragedy certainly didn't! or would the 5-year-old girl who went to the Australian Embassy to pick up her new passport have anticipated the bomb blast that hit Jakarta? or a divorcee ever thought her marriage would end this way when she walked down the aisle on her wedding day?

no matter how well we may have planned for our future - which school to go; what course to take; which career path to opt for; what investment to venture, etc. no matter how successful - top scholar of the Oxford University; CEO of a certain MNC (Multi National Company); a billionaire through stock markets, etc. we can never predict what will happen to us in the next minute.

if life is so fragile & unpredictable, why do we put our focus on earthly things when we cannot even take it with us when we die? please do not misunderstand me that we should not strife & give our best in all that we do - in fact, Paul encouraged us to "do our best to present ourselves to God"
2 Tim 2:15 - but rather we can 'invest' on others by giving our time, attention, love through ministry & evangelism. the only thing we can bring with us to heaven is the soul of those whom we have brought to Christ...

imagine: if you are told by the doctor that you only have 1-year to live. what would it be for you? will everything that you have done or possessed mean anything now?

imagine again: in the twinkling of an eye, you do not exist any more in this world. you are caught by surprise & do not have any clue why? how? etc... what are the things you would have regretted doing or not doing? did you cherish the things around you more than the people around you?

Hey,
randomly found your page as you do.
Interesting thoughts, don't seem very honest. Do you have a blog to work out what ou think or is yours more of a 'declaration' blog. eg "this is what I see, this is what I beleive or could if I lived it"
This isn't an attack, just wondering where you are in your walk.

I apreciate your words, cos Ive been thinking almost the same things but ultimately what does it matter?

hi "oh, HER",

thanks for posting your comment! i hope you do return to view my reply...

when i first set out to create my blog, i didn't intend it to be a personal journal (which many are doing) but one which trigger readers (including myself) to think/ponder upon certain underlining truth.

for those www surfers who happen to chance upon my blog (like yourself), they know straight away from the contents of my blog that i'm a christian & this itself is already a 'declaration' blog which announces my faith but not necessary a declaration that i can 'live the talk'...

each thought that came to mind when i worked on my posting, i made an effort to cross reference to the bible & along this process, i learn. in the same way, i hope through these postings (as well as those comments posted by others) someone out there will be ministered - one way or another...

we may share the same views, think the same things, but do we share the same faith? perhaps that's the ultimate element that distinguishes between what matters & what not?

no offence, ya? hope to see you coming by often.

cheers!

TIME is the most precious thing to me. GOD is fair, HE gives every Man and Woman 24 hours a day. How we spend our time determines how our life will be. If we choose to spend less time or neglect our work, then our bosses might give us a boot for poor performance.

There is one thing that is for sure, you and me will never know when our time on earth is up. It is beyond our control. Life is fragile and vulnerable, some leave this world when they are only babies while others live to a old ripe age.

Some would question GOD why some good men has to die young and cried out GOD is unfair. I feel that each of us has a purpose on Earth, more importantly is we fulfilled our purpose so that when the day we have to go, we would feel that our trip has not been wasted. I think life should be judged by its quality rather than quantity. A man can live up to 70 years aimlessly without a purpose and feel that life is a torture, whereas another 30-40 year old man left this world having save his co-workers when the Nicoll Highway collapsed. Many will remember that man as a hero who sacrifice his life for many others.

If we have only 24 hours to live, I doubt we would withdraw all our money from the bank and go on a shopping spree! I believe many would choose to spend our last moments with their loved ones instead.

What would life be if we could live forever? Would we take the people around us for granted? Putting your loved ones in 2nd priority and focus on earthly desires? I realised that I am thankful and contented when life is vulnerable cos it is a miracle that each day I still could wake up, take in a deep breathe and enjoy the things that await me in a day.

And because life is vulnerable, we want to cherish every moment that we could spend with our loved ones, making us treasure every bit of our time.

I have learnt to just plan and act on it and not worry about whether my plan will turn out right. There are too many factors in life that could influence the outcome. I rather leave it to GOD's will. By doing so, I would not be too disappointed when things do not turn out right for I believe that it is the best possible outcome.

Ecclesiastes 5
10 Whoever loves money never has money enough;
whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.
This too is meaningless.

11 As goods increase,
so do those who consume them.
And what benefit are they to the owner
except to feast his eyes on them?

12 The sleep of a laborer is sweet,
whether he eats little or much,
but the abundance of a rich man
permits him no sleep.

13 I have seen a grievous evil under the sun:
wealth hoarded to the harm of its owner,

14 or wealth lost through some misfortune,
so that when he has a son
there is nothing left for him.

15 Naked a man comes from his mother's womb,
and as he comes, so he departs.
He takes nothing from his labor
that he can carry in his hand.

16 This too is a grievous evil:
As a man comes, so he departs,
and what does he gain,
since he toils for the wind?

17 All his days he eats in darkness,
with great frustration, affliction and anger.

Cherish every moment for you do not know when it will end.
