we live from stage to stage...
...from infancy to childhood to adolescence to adulthood to aged to death.
in general, everyone goes through the same stages in life - no one is born an adult! can you imagine how painful it would be for a mother who gives birth to an adult instead of a baby?! but how is it that some find it easy while others find it hard to move on from phase to phase in their journey in life - notwithstanding the environment, the people, the circumstances & other elements?
perhaps those who find it easy are people who are realistic & true to themselves, they are focus & know what they want to achieve in life, there is a sense of purpose in them while those who find it hard tend to give up easily, "resign" themselves to fate, blame others/everything else but themselves, etc.?
i suppose recognizing which stage of life you are at is important because it determines how you should act & behave accordingly... for instance the most challenging adolescence stage where we struggle with anger, rebellion, self doubt, confusion, frustration, in constant pursuit of independence & still wonder why our lives "sucks"? clearly the biggest obstacle is ourselves! we are lost & we need directions in life yet we are too proud to admit that & refuse all wise advices given by our parents, godly friends & from the word of God... hello? what's wrong with us?!
could it be that the lessons we learn in each phase of our lives are a learning curve or experience to help us survive the next?

Interesting thought there....
Does our experiences in the earlier stages help us in the later stages of life. Tough question. Different stages of life calls for different sets of mindset and skills. Youth would realise that life is not a bed of roses and their parents couldnt be there to protect them the whole life. Couples who had their first baby would realise that it is not easy to raise a child. Parents with grown up kids would realise that their children has finally grown up and they would have to leave them to form their own family. That feeling of having to let go is not easy for they have seen their kids grown up since birth. Despite all their life experiences accumulated in prior stages, they could still feel lost and loneliness.
When I was young, I did not know GOD. I kept questioning about life and its purpose at different stages of life and continue to feel very lost despite gaining more life experiences. I dare say all human beings need some form of role model, that is why there are some who worship pop stars, actors/actresses, various false idols and etc. If we accept the wrong role model, we would find caught in a whirlpool or ratrace and only sinking deeper and deeper, not being able to get out. One could be focus on e.g. money knowing what to achieve in life but in the end, they realised that one day they would have to leave this world and could not bring along all the earthly wealth with them.
Though we live from stages to stages, I am glad that GOD is the alpha and omega, HE is there to see us through all the stages. HE is eternal and wise thus we can seek HIS wisdom in whichever stages of life and find HIS word helpful and being able to guide us through all difficulties.
Happiness and peace have always been in our hands, the greatest blessing is to experience GOD and walk with HIM.
Living from stage to stage, would mean the need to move on...
One must realise for herself to know that she needs to grow, she needs to be more matured, she needs to move on to a higher level - from Glory to Glory.
Without this recognition, she will continue to stay in current stage, and she continues to groan, to be despair, and unhappy of where she is now. Soon she finds herself different from the rest and she pulls herself away from them. She knows there is a need to let go, but unwilling to do so. She would rather stay at this stage, than to put her trust in God to move on with the rest. Her wrist clinging tightly, too proud to let go.
If you are such a person, you will learn life in a harder way. You will definitely grow, but in a longer process...maybe a painful process.
Renew yourself in His Spirit, and put your trust in Him, who will make a way for you.
Be wise to learn fast.
